The Vanquished”, a short film directed by Anjanabha Roy is a film on a story of an indie filmmaker who is bearing with a disease termed hypnogogic hallucination where he begins to hallucinate about war stories in random intervals. It is like an obsession towards the wars through the era. A mental war appears to be forming in the mind of this individual.

The thoughts and hallucinations are so strong and illusive in nature, it makes our main character starting to feel like the war might become a reason for an upcoming apocalypse. In this scene, it appears that his girlfriend even after a numerous number of tries does not appear to clearly understand his nature and clearly understand his mental state of illness. The relationship does not stick for long as it comes to a break after a lot of tries through the film’s length as they are mostly found to be getting into fights in the end breaking up due to misconceptions.

The film shows us the drastic measures of life and the how some things can drive a person mad day by day. The misunderstanding of a disease based in a mind of an individual and the torment he goes through not realizing what is causing such harms is shown beautifully in this film. The dark scenes lit up by the background seriously appeal to the viewers. The romantic chemistry between the couple and the tints of frustration in their minds is show clearly for the audience to start understanding the glitches beginning to affect their bond.

In the climax we see the filmmaker begin to show signs of schizophrenia as he starts reaching out to the darkness, getting affected by the mental effects crumbling in his mind, as he breaks down to schizophrenia.
