Dream Girl 2 starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Pandey will now hit theaters on August 25, 2023. The comedy-drama film is a prequel to the 2019 film Dream Girl, which starred Khurrana. The movie will be helmed by unique chief Raaj Shaandilya. Dream Girl received Rs. 139.37 crore at the box office in 2019.
Given the success of the previous film, the formula might pique some interest, but critics and industry experts say that the negative reception of recent films like Bunty Aur Babli 2 suggests that pushing the story forward might not work. Another obstacle is that Hindi cinema lacks the grandiosity and special effects of Hollywood superhero franchises, which serve as inspiration for sequels.
There are two main reasons sequels are made. One is business-driven, while the other is creative. Extending a storyline in a recognizable yet original way is a great business opportunity if audiences have enjoyed it. In an earlier interview with Mint, Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel of Zee Studios stated, "The sequel will always feed off the appeal of its predecessor."
The film's visual effects (VFX) were improved, according to Ektaa R. Kapoor, Joint Managing Director of Balaji Telefilms Limited. The release was postponed. "We want Ayushmann Khurrana's character to look perfect as Pooja in 'Dream Girl,' so we are taking extra time to perfect the VFX work for the face," she stated.
We want to make sure that watching the movie is the best experience possible for our audience. "We want to ensure that we deliver a high-quality product to our audiences because the VFX work for 'Dream Girl 2' is an integral part of the movie," the producer added.
