Bird Box, a horror film set in a post-apocalyptic future, was released on Netflix in December 2018. The movie quickly became an internet sensation thanks to its gripping plot and fascinatingly original premise, firmly establishing itself as a fan favorite. The story of Bird Box begins with a massive rash of unprovoked suicides, mostly in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
The root cause of society's demise is made clear as the world rapidly erupts in panic and disorder. The planet has been invaded by sinister creatures, and the remaining survivors are aware that even a brief glance at these beings can cause a person to become insane. As a result, the survivors board every window, wear blindfolds to cover their eyes, and attempt to survive in this depressing new normal.
Bird Box Barcelona takes place in Barcelona, Spain, in a parallel timeline to the original. The film follows Sebastian and his young daughter Anna as they try to get around their city's barren streets. Sebastian and Anna form an uneasy alliance with a group of other survivors while avoiding the creatures that are causing the rapid decline in global population. Curiously, the official announcement for Tudum was posted on the Netflix blog. It said that the father and daughter will have to deal with an "even more sinister" threat than the creatures that can kill a human. If this threat is connected to the "uneasy" alliance between the survivors, it will be interesting to see how Sebastian and Anna escape.
The movie trailer provides a brief glimpse of global society as it descends into panic and chaos. A shot of the woman at Malorie's hospital appointment repeatedly banging her head into a glass window is a nod to the original Bird Box for fans. News anchors from all over the world narrate the inexplicable events in a variety of languages as new footage shows the streets of Spain filled with fleeing citizens. A shocking incident reveals to Sebastian that the worst is yet to come as he races from his office building to his car.
