The Lost Footage of Leah Sullivan

Written by Burt Grinstead | Review by Ananya Jana

Cult film or cult movie, also commonly referred to as a cult classic, is a film that has acquired a cult following. Cult films are known for their dedicated, passionate fan base and elaborate subculture that engages in repeated viewings, quoting dialogue and audience participation.

The whole film is based on an investigation of a brutal murder that took place 30 years ago. A young journalist Leah Sullivan decides to return to her hometown to investigate the murder. It’s so difficult to investigate and find the real source of the murder. Without much hope for finding any answers, she started to take interviews with a series of local characters. At first, she has taken an interview with Bella Sullivan who moved to this place in the year of 1972. But in the first interview, she did not get any accurate information on the murder. Next, she meets with a deputy police officer, Patrick Rooke. With the help of the police officer, she begins to uncover the horrifying truth of what really happened that night thirty years ago. The police officer takes the core case file of Mulcahy family murder. The police officer informed that a whole family brutally got murdered along with two kids. The murderers tied up their hands and used a sharp axe for murder. After that, she met with a person who saw the entire scene after the murder. The person has given her the information but denied mentioning names. He shared all the information with the journalist. As she gets closer to discovering the truth, she edges even closer to her own demise. Along with the police officer, she went again to the place where the murder has happened. Finally, they decided to enter the house for getting details about the murder. There they found a secret door but the officer denied entering it and they came back again. Along with information, the police officer showed some related footage and picture of Mulcahy murder case.

After that, Leah met with Margaret Stromberg, cousin of Joseph Mulcahy. The young journalist asked her if Joseph was connected with mafia and why he left town. After that, Leah met with another person who gave her some more details on the 1986 Mulcahy murder. In the meantime, Patrick, the police officer, found some missing files which actually solved the murder case. But Patrick denied resolving the case officially since he decided to collect more information before revealing the truth. They again went to the house to reinvestigate everything. However, they found some mysterious signs and some mysterious creatures were shown in this footage. Finally, they entered the creepy door and the young journalist and the police officer got one step closer to the truth. They found some mysterious signs and someone killed Patrick while Leah was trying to figure out what was going on. She was too close to the truth and her blind ambition overtook her desire to survive.

Cult films trace their origin back to controversial and suppressed films kept alive by dedicated fans. In some cases, reclaimed or rediscovered films have acquired cult followings decades after their original release, occasionally for their unusual value. Other cult films have since become well-respected or reassessed as classics; there is an ongoing debate as to whether these popular and accepted films are still cult films.
