Robo99 | Reviewed by Gaurav Dutta

Robo99”, a short animated film directed by SUNG CHEOL KIM is a beautiful tale which starts from a scene of rainy weather with our main film character “Robo99” who is a robot comes in with a bird friend of his named “Dodo.” Robo99 appears to have lost his heart and is in search of a new one which can match his frequency!

A cute little adventure where things start turning intriguing as the story goes on. Due to heavy rain they stop at a shed where another robot fills them in about a story in the past at a nearby village where there are robot hearts, also that some robot had placed a potion made by a witch to get him a heart. Villagers drank from that well and turned into trees. Robo99 thinks of going to that village with DODO to get a heart he needs. The new robot leads the way, while dodo goes to investigate more in a place nearby.

We start reaching a beautiful climax that was developing for so long. Dodo discovers that the evil robot who added the potion in the well is actually the one who took Robo99 to his domain. He realizes what might be the fate of Robo99 and runs to his help in angst.  In this same moment, the evil robot shows his true colors and grabs Robo99 with his long steel arms, as if to execute him. He opens a section of his body to search his heart but realizes robo99 does not have one, and this evil robot believes in some myth of collecting 100 robot hearts to achieve some special ability. Dodo appears in time and they fight against the robot, as dodo throws the potion on his face, while robo99 fights back and wins against this evil being. The movie comes to an end with our heroes emerging victorious as they walk ahead on their journey.

A short film with a runtime of just 12 minutes, depicting so much in so less time, with so cute and adorable film characters and also a dark switch to which felt like a fairytale starting in the beginning. Beautiful landscapes, extremely clear voiceovers and just a simple and sound story to keep your heads gathered till the end.
