Psychological thriller movies don’t always fit neatly into the genre of horror, yet they terrify us all the same. With all of its twists and turns, Overdose by Emre Yap?c? gets under our skin and sinks to the very heart of our fears. At the crux of this film’s unnerving journey into the hellish depths of a serial killer’s mind lies the relationship between four friends. Their twisted games gave rise to a series of increasingly spine-tingling interactions, eventually bubbling over into gripping and unsettling deaths. This is another classic short film, spiced up by unbelievable acting skills from the lead actor. Things get intense when the lead actor was forced to try a drug. With the glimpse into the sordid mind of our villain, the director gives this movie a decidedly psychological flavor. Thanks to a particularly scary performance by the lead character Ali, YÜKSEK DOZ (Overdose) can become an award-winning movie and it is one of the most gut-wrenching thrillers I have ever endured. https://vimeo.com/257818175 The movie starts appropriately, with four friends watching a video and planning to try something unusual. Kaan mentions a digital drug called "I, Doser." The director tries to conquer mystery in his film by throwing the four of them into an unusual circumstance, thus establishing the strong game that is sure to climax into something very gruesome. The result is an immensely creepy chiller with triple dark murders. I can only say hats off to the lead actor for his fur-raising performance. The most intriguing part of the film was the direction and I had goosebumps especially during the last scene. The intensity of the story along with the direction, has made all actors give their best performances. Emre Yap?c? has thoroughly explored the negativity of his protagonists. He wanted to depict the dark side of human behavior and leave a message for high school kids. The movie has an interesting twist but this twist leaves you with more questions than answers. High Dose has beautifully portrayed a simple approach to complex emotions.
Even though I am quite scared of ghost movies and scenes of gruesome murders, I quite liked the acting of all the characters. The actors had the same energy that real college kids have and they were all excited to discover new secrets. Since this is a thriller, unraveling the mystery is not the right thing to do. If you want the unusual experience of watching something that feels like a full-length movie in just 12 minutes, then Overdose is a perfect choice. As for Emre Yap?c?, we hope his new thrillers are on the way!
