Animation is a method in which pictures are manipulated to appear as moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed and exhibited on films. Animations are not a strictly-defined genre or category, but rather a film technique. There are various forms of animations in present eras like Traditional Animation, 2D Animation, 3D Computer Animation, Motion Graphics, Stop Motion, Clay Animation and many more. The movie “Little Grey Wolfy, Spring & Icy Drift” is a 2D animated one where the characterization was done in a detailed way including the background, surroundings and the imaginative power of Wolfy and Hare.
The two friends Wolfy and Hare are playing and enjoying with their friends on a riverside. Their morning chitchats and childishness made the whole atmosphere a cheerful one. Spring is the time of an ice drift on a river. Wolfy and Hare along with their friends are carried away by their fun and joyful moments. Suddenly, they find themselves flowing in the middle of the icy stream. The cold stream flow has many hidden dangers in it which are too risky to control. But, as it is being said that true friend never leave you in your hard times, so did their friends also. The strength of their friendship, love for each other and imagination power save their life. Through their imagination, the director turns an icy drift into a ship where Wolfy becomes the sailor man and Hare the Captain. The small detailing of works like the dress of Wolfy and Hare changed with the change of their imagination power. The director Natalia even didn’t forget to give the sailor person a binocular with the help of which Wolfy’s imagination also increases. The director inserts her creativity with the help of animation in this movie — the director inputs various childish yet great works of art within six minutes thirty seconds.
The director, Natalia Malykhina is from the animated world. She had 25 years of experience in the animation industry featuring various cartoon films and animation series, commercials, TV programs. Apart from that, she had specialization in traditional hand animation, 2D computer animation, storyboarding, layout artist, script writing and in various other fields which helps her in making this animated one. She worked as an animator, storyboard and layout artist at more than 20 animated film projects at international film production studios of Moscow and Budapest. Among them, the most well-known are Mr.Bean, Angelina Ballerina, Kipper - animated series, Princess Lillifee and the Unicorn, Captain Sabertooth - feature. According to Natalia, “Creativity means not just to have great ideas, but also to have the qualifications needed to fulfill these great ideas.”
