2 DOWN – A MUSICAL LANDSCAPE BY SAM FARAGE
Directed by Sam Farage 2 Down creates a mood that is unique. There is continuous melancholy present in the music. At first, you may feel that there is positive energy in the music which doesn’t go with the story. However, the use of voice in the music creates a certain mood that tells how painful the situations are. The music really goes with the video because there are some beautiful moments in the video that has been perfectly portrayed through the music. 2 Down is an instrumental piece. The occasional human voice makes the music more humane. The music is about a journey of a person who is going through a personal loss. The journey, both physical and mental, has been perfectly captured in this music. The use of tempo in the music to portray the journey as well as grief is really interesting. It was unexpected and also doesn’t go with regular norm. The use of electronic sound makes the memories more painful. Use of different instruments makes the sound really enigmatic. The notes that have been used in the music turn the piece into a story by itself. The story of the video is very painful. It shows how a person struggling with personal loss. That sense of loss has been perfectly captured in the music too. However, at the end of the music, you’ll realize how important it is to defeat your personal loss and grief. The music reminded me of the music of Enigma. The music creates the same mood that the ‘Return of Innocence’ created. The flow of the music is similar to their music. The music seamlessly goes into your mind. The blend of multiple instruments makes the rendition unique and attractive. However, this doesn’t mean that the music is not simple. The music is really simple and attracts the listeners at the first time. The best part is that anyone can establish a connection with the music. The video tells a story of a lonely backpacker in a vast, dreamlike landscape of never-ending mountain range. She is completely lost in the thoughts. Her painful memories starts to emerge and she deep dive into it. She is struggling to fight with the demons of guilt, shame and sorrow. She realizes that she should break-free from the psychological dissonance and find forgiveness and gratitude. The story is about overcoming the worst sufferings and clearing one’s mind from agony. The video is about facing one’s deepest fears and painful emotions. The video also teaches how to grow as a person. No one is perfect and sometimes one needs to accept the truth to move forward. In short, 2 Down is about gratitude towards life. The electronic sound is the best part of this music. It goes really with the idea of bisecting the psychological journey of a person who has suffered a personal loss. The arrangement of the music is another interesting part of the music. The video really goes with the music. The director had exactly sure what he wants to portray. The director of the video, Sam Farage, has also made some short films. The combination of film and video is the most important and striking aspect of this musical video.
