OSCARS 2023

FESTIVAL NEWS
Cult Critic OSCARS 2023

Jimmy Kimmel facilitated the Oscars for the third time, with the function being communicated in real time from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles Several attendees of the Academy Awards on Sunday wore blue ribbons in support of refugees who fled their homes to escape war, conflict, and persecution. Among them were the Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro and the Oscar-nominated actress Cate Blanchett.

On-screen stars like Olivia Newton-John and Angela Lansbury, as well as luminaries from behind the scenes like the French director Jean-Luc Godard and Burt Bacharach, who has won three Oscars for his soundtracks, were honored at the Academy Awards.

In a Category with first-time nominees, Brendan Fraser brought back home the Oscar for best entertainer as a 600-pound school teacher generally settled to his loft in "The Whale." The Academy Award marked the culmination of a remarkable comeback story following wins at the Screen Actors Guild and Critics' Choice Awards. Everything Everywhere All at Once, a spellbinding, life-jumping sci-fi and action drama with hot-dog fingers, sex toys, and deeply moving scenes between two rocks on a cliff, won the Oscar for best picture on Sunday to cap a stunningly successful award season. The film, which was directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, was the favorite going into the evening to win the top prize. It was nominated for 11 Oscars and had previously won top prizes from the guilds of actors, writers, producers, and directors earlier in the year. In A24's genre-bending hit "Everything, Everywhere All at Once," Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar for best actress for her role as a beleaguered wife, mother, and laundromat owner whose life is turned upside down when she is thrown into multiple parallel universes. She becomes the first Asian actress to win best actress in the Academy Awards' 95-year history.

The Elephant Whisperers, a Netflix documentary short from Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga, has won the 95th Academy Awards ‘Best Documentary Short award. The 41-minute short documentary, which was produced by Achin Jain and Guneet Monga and was directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, centres on a Tamil Nadu family who adopts two orphaned baby elephants from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

The rollicking dance hit from the Indian blockbuster "RRR," "Naatu Naatu," beat out two songs by American pop megastars to win the Oscar for best original song. Although A.R. Rahman's tune for the British-produced "Slumdog Millionaire" was the first Indian song to win the award, this is the first Indian production to do so. Rihanna, the musician, beauty tycoon, and now mother, appeared on the Oscar stage on Sunday night, a month after performing as the halftime act at the Super Bowl. Rihanna gave a moving performance of the heartfelt song "Lift Me Up" from the Marvel sequel "Black Panther: Wakanda for all time.

Edward Berger's epic World War I film "All Quiet on the Western Front" won the Oscar for best international feature film, capping off an unexpectedly successful season for Germany. Since 2007 when Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's surveillance drama "The Lives of Others" won the award, this is the nation's first victory in this category.

Some things changed for the 95th Academy Awards, including the crisis management team, honorary pathway supplanted with impartial variety, however different things remained a lot of something very similar. There were a lot of stars. This year, there was a mix of experimental and traditional carpeting. One new look after another was dominated by bold colors, black, and white.
