The Super Mario Bros Movie as the name suggests is a cute little animation movie of the famous game Super Mario! We in our childhood might have definitely gone through this amazing Nintendo game that has now made its way with so many versions and in all platforms and is also a world-class sensation in our eyes and now it has hit the cinemas!
As the story goes like this, Mario, a plumber from Brooklyn, goes through the Mushroom Kingdom with Peach, a princess, and Toad, an anthropomorphic mushroom, to find Luigi and save the world from Bowser, a vicious fire-breathing Koopa. People of our generation should smile a little when they see some Nintendo easter eggs in the background of these early scenes. There is also some structural inspiration, like a clever early shot in which Mario and Luigi race through the city in a side-scrolling manner that is similar to the earlier games. In Mario's room, there is also a reference to The Odyssey on a bookshelf, which suggests that we are about to watch a hero's journey and is also a reference to the fantastic Switch game.
The scripting for a movie called "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" doesn't have to be a strength, as this movie's fans will yell from the rooftops. To be fair, there are a few well-designed settings as well. The structure of Donkey Kong Country was well-constructed by the team, and the Rainbow Road "Super Mario Kart" sequence is well-directed. We would say that it has great pacing and never leaves you bored. While it is not a perfect film it leaves little to be desired. It is everything you want from an animated Super Mario Movie.
