In Delhi following the pandemic, an anti-narcotics officer played by Shahid Kapoor and his partner Zeishan Quadri stop a car and take Rs. Cocaine worth $50 million. Sikandar (Ronit Roy), a hotelier and kingpin in Gurugram, is enraged by their interception. He calls Sumair to tell him that he has kidnapped his son and to return the drug bag in exchange for the boy. That evening, Sumair shows up at the Hotel Emerald Etlantis. He has a game plan and a gut wound to heal,he won't return the drugs and will save his son.
The idea of a father fighting alone for his child's release is as old as action movies themselves. Bloody Daddy is a remake of the 2011 French film Nuit Blanche (Sleepless Night), which Kamal Haasan had previously adapted as Thoongaa Vanam. However, its trailer made it clear that it wants to imitate a different franchise John Wick. Zafar overlooks an essential point because he is so eager to imitate the visual language of the Keanu Reeves/Chad Stahelski films. New York is not Gurugram. The Emerald Atlantis, which was shot in Abu Dhabi and features raucous wedding guests, lacks the mysticism and menace of the Continental Hotel. Even weirder is a scene in which Sumair breaks into Bhangra to hide himself from the crowd while plodding through the bright disco lights like John Wick.
In Zafar's hands, Shahid is a better tool than Salman Khan, who is in his later years of career. He is agile, springy, slender, and has a sharp jawline. Even though his opponents, with the possible exception of Rajeev Khandelwal, are undifferentiated bags of blood and air, Shahid Kapoor fights with a mean streak. Shahid Kapoor's performance is ultimately hampered by the film's tendency toward emotion. Sumair is depicted as a ferocious fighter with a golden heart. Even in the middle of an action film scene, the music turns emotional whenever he looks over at his son. After racially profiling two Nepali immigrants, he helps them pay their rent, and a scene in which he teaches a woman's pushy date is like a small gesture of kindness extended to Kabir Singh's critics.
