CAT'S PICKS FILM
Cult Critic BlackBerry

Director: Matt Johnson

Writers: Matt Johnson | Jacquie McNish

Starring: Jay Baruchel | Glenn Howerton | Matt Johnson

Genre: Biography | Comedy

Interest 13

Directed by Matt Johnson, BlackBerry is another docudrama that proposes to investigate the ascent and fall of the previously well-known cell brand and its parent organization, Research in Motion, and keeping in mind that the subject could appear to be dreary to individuals who simply couldn't care less about what occurs inside large companies, with BlackBerry, Johnson figures out how to make an exhilarating and moving tale about kinship, pride, and the severity of the unrestricted economy.

BlackBerry transports us to the year 1996, when the visionary engineer Mike Lazaridis, played by Jay Baruchel, proposed a new way to change the communication industry integrating an email client into a mobile phone. Even though we are all very accustomed to using smartphones these days, Lazaridis has recently provided us with mobile internet access. However, the fact that younger generations are almost entirely unfamiliar with the BlackBerry brand makes Lazaridis' story even more tragic.

Doubtlessly BlackBerry makes a delightful showing reporting the historical backdrop of RIM. Based on the book Losing the Signal, written by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff Johnson's documentary, The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry, never shies away from delving into the intricacies of the business world. The film not only pays tribute to Lazaridis' groundbreaking technology, but it also focuses on the legal scams and false business promises that keep the capitalist system's money machine spinning.
