Sweetness” a short film directed by Murali Thirugnanam goes through a story of a married couple who are about to invite a newborn to their home. The film goes ahead with the couple lying in bed romanticizing about their love life.
The couple appear to be facing financial troubles because as the wife asks his husband about his salary, it appears he has not received it as he changes the topic to something else. In a while, the film goes ahead with its actual story of the jackfruit. A jackfruit seller appears at the scene, and sells his jackfruits to a neighbor’s house that kids appear to be eating. The pregnant wife appears to start having a craving towards the smell of this jackfruit as her reactions change visually shown. The film shows us her craving in an amazing way as when her husband comes back from home and he talks about it and spells it wrong, the wife arrogantly replies that “it’s a jackfruit.” They start arguing on a small matter all of a sudden, that seems to be money.
The next day, a kid out of nowhere brings jackfruit for her which she eats with amaze and happiness with a bright smile on her face. Meanwhile the husband is scolded and given less salary in his office where he tries to argue to get his genuine salary but fails as the manager causes fear in his mind of firing him. He comes home and starts crying while having his dinner, where the wife notices and holds him to calm him down.
After a while, as she is doing her household chores, she notices a black bag her husband left there on a chair, she picks it up to find a package filled with jackfruit for her. Even in these dire situations, the husband was able to show his love through just a minute gesture towards her wife. A cute little love story where you can feel the love immensely just with those small moments cherishing it.
