Altered Perceptions”, a feature film directed by Jorge Ameer focuses on the genre of Sci-Fi and horror. The film is a two-hour long film with the concept based on the homophobic individuals and the black people of America. A virus is out in the open affecting various individuals.

The film appears to also bring in the Satanistic vibe into the foreground. At the beginning of the film, there is a man who is seen painting a portrait, but meanwhile as he is looking at the news, he appears to be talking to himself and starts blabbering that he can see someone, , we as viewers are confused of his mental state or is he talking about any ghosts in the vicinity. In a minute or two, he cuts his wrist off with a sharp object and talking in his mind, bleeds to his imminent death. The film takes a swift turn filling us in about a virus that is loose causing the mental heath of people to quickly deteriorate. There is no possible explanation of this widespread virus in the country. But it is driving people affected by it crazy, as there are scenes where a person guts a knife into another person murdering him out of no reason and then uttering the name of Jesus as he stabs himself with the same knife in the neck in a gruesome successful suicide attempt.

News channels publicize these daily happenings, but in one of those news hearings we see a news reporter kill himself by ripping off his neck with a knife and bleed to his death with a wicked smile on his face. This film portrays absurdism and chooses a specific group of audience. There is a sheer amount of bloodshed throughout the cinema, portraying the developing mayhem in the world. How badly and brutally is the virus spreading and affecting people around is spectacularly shown in this film.

As the film progresses, the doctors and scientists have noticed that the homophobic and black individuals are getting affected more in number. We witness some mentally unstable moments. A man hooks up with a girl, and they go to her place but in a while, it is noticed that he is not actually having sexual intercourse with the woman but rather has a beheaded head of the girl in his arms and is sexually stimulating himself with it. The moment the person appears to have come back to his senses, he realizes what he was doing and shoots himself in the head.

The visuals of the film are breathtaking. The concept and the features make it unique. The movie describes the unknown virus, how it affects the mental health and the director is successful in portraying how it is different from diseases like Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Something the world is not ready for and exactly not clear with. To understand the crisis a virus can cause, this film is definitely an eye catcher.

The acting is commendable, specially the scene where the guy in the beginning gives a blank expression and cuts his wrist off as he keeps talking to himself. A surreal atmosphere is created as such scenes keep taking place. The concept of annihilation makes it unique and more of a cult film as it takes into consideration the relation between science and religion. A Satanic cult feature is also witnessed, while we see the scientific changes searching for a cure for the virus. The question still remains, is it really a virus outbreak, or a Satanic cult taking over the minds of people.
