FILM OF THE MONTH
Cult Critic Top Superpower Movies on Streaming Platforms

Online streaming platforms have played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of superhero storytelling, providing a dynamic space for these larger-than-life narratives to flourish. From iconic film characters to epic battles, online streaming platforms have become the go-to destination for movie buffs seeking their superhero fix. The accessibility and convenience offered by streaming services have democratized the superhero experience, allowing film enthusiasts to explore entire universes at their fingertips. You've come to the correct spot if you're searching for intense enjoyment while surfing through channels.

Here is our selection of the best superhero films available for streaming right now, including new film releases, beloved classics, and cult classics.

THE PHANTOM (1996): As per the Guinness World Book of Records, The Phantom was the first superhero. Therefore, if you're in the mood for nostalgia, curl up with the comic strip's 1996 film adaptation, which starred Billy Zane as the everlasting crimefighter engaged in a conflict with evil. Treat Williams and Catherine Zeta-Jones are people to watch.

SUPERMAN (1978): Although Henry Cavill's amazing Justice League Superman deserves a lot of credit, it is hard to replicate the thrill of Christopher Reeves's Clark Kent facing off against Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor with Margot Kidder's Lois Lane at his side. This classic is a must-watch.

AVENGERS ENDGAME (2019): The Marvel Cinematic Universe was launched in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, and Avengers Endgame provides closure by addressing the unresolved issues that surfaced over that time. First-timers may want to rewind to see Iron Man (2008), among other films, before continuing as this isn't a stand-alone picture. The Avengers want to avenge their loss to the villain Thanos as the finale approaches.

DARKMAN (1990): One of the greatest superhero films you've never seen, Darkman is a cult classic. Starring two unknowns at the time, Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand, it was a critical and commercial success. The narrative is about a scientist whose lab is destroyed by gangsters, leaving him scarred.

AKIRA (1988): Akira is worth seeing for moviegoers who enjoy more avant-garde films. Another cult favourite and great way to start watching anime movies, this post-apocalyptic cyberpunk action picture from Japanese filmmaker Katsuhiro Otomo revolves around covert government psychological experiments and a bomb placed on Tokyo.

DEADPOOL (2016): Ryan Reynolds, star of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is back as Wade Wilson, a Special Forces officer turned mercenary with a snarky sense of humor and a mission to track down the man who ruined his good looks.

BLACK PANTHER (2018): T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the Black Panther, King of Wakanda, and guardian of his people, is the central figure of Black Panther. But the film is more than just a superhero story about good vs evil. Black Panther improves the movie by examining ethical and political issues.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (2011): In the middle of a conflict, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) tries to fulfill his patriotic duty, but the US military rejects him due to his stature. This incites Rogers to attempt an experimental program that transforms him into a super-soldier who battles the HYDRA group, an organization supported by the Nazis. Hayley Atwell, host of SPYSCAPE True Spies, plays Peggy Carter.

SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS (2021): American superhero movie from 2021 that stars Shang-Chi and is based on Marvel Comics. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the film. When Shang-Chi's father Wenwu (Leung), the terrorist organization Ten Rings' leader, drags him and his sister Xialing (Zhang) into a hunt for a legendary town, Shang-Chi is forced to face his past in the movie.

GLASS (2019), THE UNBREAKABLE TRILOGY: Check out Bruce Willis's portrayal of David Dunn, an everyday superhero and former college football star who is now working as a security guard, if you're seeking to curl up with a great trilogy. Dunn learns he has superhuman skills with reluctance. Willis first gained notoriety with the 2000 film Unbreakable, followed by a small appearance in Split (2016) and a larger role in The Glass (2019)

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (2017): Spider-Man made history by depicting Peter Parker, the teenage superhero, as experiencing emotions of loneliness, inadequacy, and rejection. While Spider-Man: Homecoming is a noteworthy standalone feature film, all of the franchise's flicks are enjoyable to see repeatedly.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT (2008): Picking a favorite Batman movie is nigh impossible so the choice came down to the brilliant combo of film director Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, and the unforgettable Heath Ledger as The Joker. Honorable mention to the dynamic duo of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton in the 1989 film Batman.

JACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE: Justice League by Jack Snyder is definitely worth streaming. This is the film director's cut of Justice League, the 2017 American superhero movie, from 2021.

Whether you're a fan of epic superhero team-ups, individual hero journeys, or deconstructing the superhero archetype, there's something for everyone in the world of superpower movies on online streaming platforms. So, grab your popcorn, settle into your favourite spot, and let the extraordinary adventures unfold on your screen. The power is in your hands!
